LG Dryer Error Codes: What They Mean and How to Fix Them

Quick answer: The most common LG dryer codes are the Flow Sense codes d75, d80, d90 and d95, which mean the exhaust vent is that percent blocked. Other frequent ones are nP (no current at the heater), HS (dirty humidity sensor), dE (door open) and tE1 to tE4 (temperature sensor problems).

LG dryer codes appear on the display, and many models also show Flow Sense bars for vent airflow. Codes and button names vary by model, so match what you see to your owner's manual. LG's usual reset is to unplug the dryer or trip its breaker, hold Start/Pause for five seconds while it is unpowered, then restore power and run a cycle. Fix the cause first, though: a reset will not clear a blocked vent.

LG Dryer Error Codes list

d75 / d80 / d90 / d95

Exhaust vent restricted by about 75, 80, 90 or 95 percent

Common causes: Lint in the duct, a crushed or kinked vent hose, a jammed outside flap, long vent runs with many bends, or oversized loads

What you can try: Clean the lint filter, check the duct behind the dryer for kinks and make sure the outside flap opens fully. Dry smaller loads.

Call a technician if: The duct runs inside a wall or roof and needs professional cleaning, or the code persists after cleaning.

d80 (gas models)

Possible lack of gas supply

Common causes: A closed gas valve or a gas supply problem, in addition to vent restriction

What you can try: Check the vent first. Confirm the gas valve behind the dryer is in the open position without loosening any fittings.

Call a technician if: The vent is clear. If you smell gas, leave the home and call your gas utility.

nP

No current detected at the heater

Common causes: Usually home wiring: a tripped breaker, one half of a 240V breaker off, or a loose cord connection

What you can try: Turn the dryer's breaker off for at least 10 seconds and back on. Make sure the cord is fully plugged into its 240V outlet.

Call a technician if: The dryer still will not heat. Outlet voltage checks need a licensed electrician or technician.

PS

Improper voltage in the power cord

Common causes: Possibly reversed wires at the terminal block on the back of the dryer

What you can try: Reset the breaker for at least 10 seconds. Leave the terminal block itself to a professional.

Call a technician if: The code returns. Cord wiring is not a DIY task.

HS

Humidity (moisture) sensor error

Common causes: Residue from dryer sheets or softener on the sensor bars below the lint filter, or a failed sensor

What you can try: Wipe the sensor bars with a damp cloth and let them dry before the next cycle.

Call a technician if: HS returns. LG notes it can make the dryer run about 2.5 hours.

dE

Door not fully closed

Common causes: Lint filter not seated, clothing in the door, or a door switch problem

What you can try: Seat the lint filter fully and close the door firmly. Unplug for five seconds, plug in, close the door and start a cycle.

Call a technician if: The code keeps coming back.

tE1 / tE3

Thermistor (temperature sensor) problem

Common causes: A failed sensor or wiring fault

What you can try: Use LG's reset: unplug, hold Start/Pause for five seconds, restore power and run a cycle.

Call a technician if: The code returns after the reset.

tE2

Thermistor reading in cold conditions

Common causes: Cold outside air entering through an open or stuck vent flap, or steam cycles cooling the duct quickly

What you can try: Make sure the outside flap closes properly and is free of ice, snow or lint.

Call a technician if: tE2 continues after the flap is fixed.

tE4

Temperature out of range

Common causes: A sensor fault

What you can try: No homeowner fix. LG lists this as a service code.

Call a technician if: Every time it appears.

gAS (or 9A5)

Gas dryer is not receiving gas

Common causes: A closed valve or kinked gas line

What you can try: Confirm the valve is open and the line is not kinked. If the dryer is new, contact the installer.

Call a technician if: The valve is open and the code remains.

F0 / Insert Filter

Lint filter not inserted properly

Common causes: Filter pulled out or not seated

What you can try: Remove and reinsert the lint filter.

Call a technician if: The filter is seated and the message stays.

PF

Power failure, usually after an outage

Common causes: An interruption in power during the cycle

What you can try: Unplug or trip the breaker, hold Start/Pause for five seconds, restore power and run a cycle.

Call a technician if: PF continues without outages.

E13 (hybrid condensing models)

Drain hose problem

Common causes: A kinked, crushed or clogged drain hose, an extended hose, or frozen sump water

What you can try: Straighten the drain hose and use LG's standard hose, then press Start/Pause.

Call a technician if: E13 returns.

How to clear the code

  • Control reset (PF, tE1, tE3): unplug the dryer or trip its breaker, press and hold Start/Pause for five seconds, restore power and start a cycle.
  • Door code (dE): unplug for five seconds, plug in, close the door firmly, choose a cycle and press Start.
  • Power codes (nP, PS): turn the breaker off for at least 10 seconds.
  • Not errors: CL is Child Lock (hold the Child Lock key for three seconds), and Check Filter is a reminder.

Flow Sense codes and dryer safety

LG built Flow Sense to warn you before a restricted vent becomes a bigger problem. A d90 or d95 code means very little air is leaving the dryer. Heat and lint build up inside, drying slows down, and the heating parts work harder than they should.

Do not keep running loads with a d90 or d95. Clean what you can reach, and if the duct goes through a wall, ceiling or roof, a professional vent cleaning is the safest route. If your dryer runs but stays cold, see our guide on an LG dryer not heating.

FAQs

Does d80 mean my LG dryer is broken?

Usually not. On most models d80 means the exhaust vent is about 80 percent restricted, so the vent needs cleaning. On gas models it can also point to a gas supply issue.

Why does my LG dryer show nP and not heat?

LG says nP means no current is reaching the heater, which usually comes from home wiring, such as a tripped breaker or a loose 240V connection. Reset the breaker, and if it continues, have the outlet and dryer checked.

How do I clean the LG dryer humidity sensor?

The sensor is a pair of metal bars just below the lint filter opening. Wipe them with a damp cloth or paper towel and let them dry before running another load.

Codes and meanings vary by model and model year. Check your owner's manual for your exact model.
