Mr. Fixer technician performing stove & range repair

A stove gets used almost every day, and the constant heating and cooling wears on its igniters, switches, elements and controls. A range that is not working right can do more than spoil dinner. Gas that does not light properly and electric parts that overheat are safety problems.

Common signs that a range needs service include burners that click but will not ignite, weak or yellow flames, a surface element that will not heat or will not turn off, an oven that does not match its setting, controls or timers that stop responding, a burning smell from an element and loud noises when the oven cycles. A smell of natural gas is an emergency: leave the home and call your gas utility before anything else.

Mr. Fixer Appliance Repair has repaired ranges in Metro Atlanta since 2017, and our trucks carry the parts ranges need most often. Call (678) 866-3669 or book online to get yours working again.

Quick checks before you call

  • If you smell gas, leave the home immediately and call your gas utility from outside. Do not operate switches or try to find the leak.
  • For burners that will not light, let the range cool, then make sure each cap is seated evenly and dry.
  • Check the breaker panel. An electric range uses a double breaker, and one tripped side can leave part of the range dead.
  • On a coil range, with the power off, make sure the element is fully plugged into its receptacle.
  • Confirm the oven is not in a control lock, timed bake or demo mode.

Common stove & range problems we fix

Burners click but won't light

Usually a burner cap that is out of place, ports clogged with food, moisture after a spill or a cracked spark electrode. If the clicking never stops, a wet or failed burner switch or spark module is likely.

Weak, uneven or yellow flame

Clogged burner ports produce lopsided or low flames. A mostly yellow, sooty flame can mean an air mixture problem or a range not set up for the gas type, which should be checked by a technician.

Surface element won't heat

On coil ranges, the element or its receptacle may be burned. On smooth tops, the radiant element or the infinite switch behind the knob is the common failure.

Element stuck on high

A burner that glows full power regardless of the knob setting usually has a failed infinite switch. Turn it off at the breaker and stop using that burner until it is repaired.

Oven side not heating

A gas range oven often has a weak igniter, while an electric range oven typically has a burned-out bake element. The temperature sensor and control board are checked next.

Temperature doesn't match the setting

Overcooking or undercooking points to a failing temperature sensor, a control that needs calibration or a door gasket letting heat escape.

Burning smell or sparking

A burning smell from a coil element can be spilled food, but sparks or arcing mean the element or its terminal is failing. Switch the range off at the breaker until it is checked.

Controls, clock or timer not working

Unresponsive touch pads, a dead display or controls that beep with errors usually come from a failed touch panel or control board, sometimes damaged by heat from the cooktop or self-clean.

Loud noises when cycling

A loud whoosh or pop when a gas oven lights can mean delayed ignition from a weak igniter. Humming or grinding on convection ranges often comes from the fan motor.

Oven door won't close properly

Worn hinges or broken door springs let the door hang open slightly, which wastes heat and causes uneven cooking. A torn door gasket has a similar effect.

Types we service

Gas ranges

We service spark ignition, burner valves, igniters, oven safety valves and controls. Gas valve and supply line work stays with trained technicians, never DIY.

Electric coil ranges

These simple, durable ranges usually need elements, receptacles, infinite switches or a bake element. Repairs are often straightforward.

Electric smooth-top ranges

Radiant elements under glass, switches, hot-surface indicator lights and glass tops are common repairs on this style.

Induction ranges

Induction ranges use power boards, coils and cooling fans. We diagnose pan detection problems, uneven heating and error codes.

Dual-fuel and professional-style ranges

Dual-fuel ranges pair a gas cooktop with an electric oven. We service both halves, including professional-style ranges from brands such as Viking, Wolf and Thermador.

Slide-in and freestanding

Slide-in ranges sit flush with the counter and can be tighter to access. We take care not to damage counters or cabinets when pulling a range out.

How your repair works

  1. Call or book online

Share the brand, fuel type and symptoms. If gas is involved, we will make sure you are safe first.

  2. On-site inspection

The technician tests burners, ignition, elements, switches, sensors and controls, and checks gas connections at the appliance for safe operation.

  3. Written estimate before work

You receive the repair price in writing. If you proceed, we credit the $80 diagnostic fee toward the repair.

  4. Repair with matched parts

We install factory-recommended parts that match your model and adjust burners and elements to factory specifications.

  5. Final checks

Every burner and the oven are tested before we leave, we explain what was done, and the repair is backed for 60 days on parts and labor.

Maintenance tips from our technicians

Clean burner heads and caps

Remove grates and caps once they are cool and wash them every few weeks. Clear ports with a pin, never a toothpick that can snap off inside.

Dry everything after a boil-over

Water in the burner base causes clicking and poor ignition. Let parts dry fully before relighting.

Match the pot to the burner

Oversized pans on small burners trap heat around knobs and controls. Pans that are too small waste energy and heat the surrounding surface.

Don't cover drip pans with foil

Foil on coil-range drip pans or oven floors can reflect heat and damage elements and sensors.

Keep the anti-tip bracket in place

Freestanding ranges should be secured with the anti-tip bracket. It prevents the range from tipping if someone leans on an open oven door.

Watch for warning signs

Slow ignition, a flickering display or a burner that heats unevenly are early signs. A small repair now is easier than a failed board later.

What affects the cost

The cost of a stove repair depends on whether the range is gas, electric or induction, which part has failed and how much of the range has to come apart. Igniters, switches and elements are on the lower end, while control boards and glass tops cost more. Professional-style ranges may need special-order parts. There is the $80 diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and a written estimate before work starts. Visit our prices page to learn how billing works.

Repair or replace?

A range usually lasts about 13 to 15 years, and gas ranges often outlast electric ones. Under the 50 percent rule, if a repair costs more than half of what a similar new range would cost, replacing it is typically the better use of money, especially for an older range. Igniters, burners, switches and elements are almost always worth fixing. Our article on repairing versus replacing an appliance goes into the trade-offs.

Stove & Range Repair FAQs

What types of stoves do you repair?

We repair residential gas, electric coil, smooth-top, induction and dual-fuel ranges, including freestanding, slide-in and professional-style models.

What should I do if my gas stove smells like gas?

Leave the home immediately and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. Do not light anything, use switches or try to shut off the leak yourself. After the utility clears the home, call us to repair the range.

Why do my burners keep clicking?

Constant clicking usually means moisture in the burner, a misaligned cap or a burner switch that has failed. Let the burner dry and reseat the cap. If it continues, the switch or spark module needs service.

What causes burners to stop heating on an electric stove?

A burned-out element, a bad receptacle on coil ranges, or a failed infinite switch is most common. Wiring faults are less frequent.

Can you fix uneven heating on an induction stove?

Yes. Problems such as uneven heating or cookware not being detected are often caused by sensors, cooling fans or a power board, and we can repair them.

How much does stove repair cost?

It varies with the part and the range type. the $80 diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and you see a written estimate first.

How soon can you repair my stove?

We offer same-day service in most of Metro Atlanta, Monday through Friday. Schedule any time online or by phone.

Do you use genuine parts?

Yes. We use factory-recommended genuine parts that match your model.

Is it better to repair or replace my stove?

If the range is under about ten years old and the repair is less than half the cost of a new one, repair usually makes sense.

Do you offer a warranty on stove repairs?

Yes. Stove and range repairs carry our 60-day parts and labor warranty.
