GE Oven Error Codes (F-Codes): What They Mean and How to Fix Them
GE ranges and wall ovens with electronic controls show F-codes in the clock display, often with a steady beep. GE notes that codes vary by model, and not every code exists on every oven. Start with a reset: turn off the circuit breaker or fuse for a minute or two, then restore power. If the code comes back, GE advises leaving the oven off at the breaker until it is serviced; you can switch it on briefly to use the cooktop. If you ever smell gas, do not touch any switches or the oven controls. Leave the home right away and call your gas utility from outside.

What you can try: Check the owner's manual to turn off the lockout. For a flashing LOC DOOR, do a breaker reset.
Call a technician if: The door will not unlock after a reset.
Self-clean cannot start because the oven is too hot, or Bake was tried too soon after a clean.
Common causes: Oven still cooling.
What you can try: Let the oven cool fully and try again.
Call a technician if: Not usually needed.
How to clear the code
- Turn off the oven's breaker (or remove the fuse) for a minute or two.
- Restore power and set the clock.
- If the F-code returns, turn the breaker off again and keep it off until the oven is serviced. You may switch it on briefly to use the cooktop.
Gas range safety
An F-code on a GE gas range is an electronic fault, but some faults stop the oven from lighting. Never try to light the oven by hand or open the gas valve area. If you smell gas, leave the home and call your gas utility from outside. Gas valve and burner work is not a DIY job.

What does F3 mean on a GE oven?
On many GE ovens F3, like F4, points to the oven temperature sensor. A reset may clear it briefly, but if it returns the sensor usually needs replacing.
Is it safe to use my GE oven with an F2 code?
No. F2 means the oven went above a safe temperature limit. Turn it off at the breaker and have it checked.
My GE oven door is stuck locked after self-clean. What do I do?
Let the oven cool completely, then try a breaker reset. If the door still will not unlock or F9 shows, the door lock circuit needs service.
Codes and meanings vary by model and model year. Check your owner's manual for your exact model.
